Just Do You
In our social media world, we are currently overwhelmed by up and coming recording artist, DIY designers, relationship bloggers, sexual advice, Christian bloggers and authors, ministers, video sermons, and discussions and more, and in the midst of it all, everyone else is trying to find a place. This is causing us to become a generation of "flitters." You may be wondering what a "flitter" is; well I will explain. In the play A Raisin in the Sun, by Lorraine Hansberry, the character "Mama" has a daughter by the name of Beneatha who switches hobbies quite often, and one day Mama asks her "Why do you have to flit so?" Hence the word "flit" which means to move from one thing to another quite often. Our generation, in an honest effort to find a place, have resorted to flitting. We start one project, become inconsistent with it when it doesn’t create the following we like, then we are on to another. This is not a good practice for a couple of reasons.
- One, God has a purpose for you, and if you are choosing projects based on what others are doing you are already incorrect.
- Two, we must remember that nothing happens overnight, so it's not a good practice to just leave one project high and dry because the return was not what you thought it would be.
If you know that your purpose is bigger than what you are currently doing, pray and ask God to enlarge your territory. I remember teaching for a year and a half and I was so caught up in my ridiculous personal life, I know I wasn't living out my purpose. When I finally gained a grasp on things God blessed me with a better job, where I could make the impact He desired me to make, and once again I fell prey to the enemies tricks. Somewhere in between it all though, he instructed me to start a blog. He reminded me that I had a story to tell, and people needed to hear it. I had been through so much and seen so much, that it wasn't fair for me to keep it all to myself. I wasn't blogging about the same things others were, because my story was not like others. I was following the path that was laid out for me. Once I understood that, I started writing. I created a blog, I connected with other amazing women in ministry, I joined my church, I joined and begin working in a ministry at my church. I was so thirsty and drained, and Jesus fulfilled His promise and provided me with living water, that I shall never thirst again. John 4:1-14.
Once God reveals to you His purpose, be patient with it. Begin to work in it diligently, bringing it to fruition daily if at all possible. Make a workable schedule and stick to it. I am telling you things that will work and make your ministry fruitful, although there were times where I did well with these methods, and times I did not. Know one is perfect, but by all means we should try to maintain consistency, because it's not good to develop a following of people then drop them because it wasn't major enough. Remember you don't reap in the same season that you harvest. Galatians 6:9. You have to trust God with the assignment He has given you and see it all the through, you cannot abort the mission. James 1:12
In conclusion, drop that spirit that tells you every time you log on to social media, "that's a good idea, and you should try that" and walk away from the one that says, "nobody's reading, buying, or using that, forget it and move on to the last thing you saw on social media!" The enemy wants to keep us flitting so that we can become inconsistent and he can attack. Don't allow him to use you, because people are counting on you. Become submissive to God, and be steadfast and unmovable!
Pray this blessed you! I love you, and God does too!
